A deciduous tree with a rounded crown, low branching type habit and can grow rather large if not kept in check. Mature trees can reach up to 25meters tall with an 8 meter spread. Luckily it can be pruned to maintain a smaller size I have seen many mature trees that have been pruned and shaped, creating fantastic pagoda style shapes and being only a few meters tall. It is also often used in Bonsai.
Mature plants produce creamy white, pea shaped flowers in late spring to early summer. Despite it’s common name it is actually from China and Korea. Easy to grow tolerating poor soils, pollution and periods of drought and should be planted in a well drained soil with full sun.
Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot.
