A woody-based perennial with clusters of hot, bright flowers in shades of fiery-orange to coral pink that appear from mid summer continuing until the plant is knocked back by the first heavy frosts. The blooms appear in profusion during the flowering period and are held on tall spikes contrasting with the blue green foliage.
It loves the sun and should be planted in a border that has a full light aspect and well drained soil. It is not fussy about soil PH as long as it has good drainage especially over the winter. Only really hardy in UK zone 9 gardens and should be given a thick winter mulch once it has been knocked back to the ground by frost.
Growing to around 50cm tall with a similar spread it is ideal for the front to middle of a hot herbaceous border, for filling in gaps and it also does well in containers for the summer. Cut back old flower spikes regularly to improve continuous blooming.
Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot. May be cut back for shipping, re-growth is fast during the growing season. Sent as dormant plants if purchased in winter.
