This beautiful, fast growing Australian evergreen tree has silvery grey, feathery, fern like leaves and is smothered in axillary racemes of small, globose golden yellow flowerheads in late winter. Although it can grow up to 8 meters if left unchecked it can be regularly pruned to create a bush rather than a tree. Ideally do not prune after about late June as although the flowers do not open until late winter they actually start to develop in late summer.
Plant in a moist but well drained soil that is on the acid to neutral PH side and although they become drought resistant when grown in the ground and have become established they do require regular watering in pots especially during the summer. Feeding should be done around once a month in pot grown specimens with a balanced liquid fertiliser. They are only reliably hardy in UK zone 9 gardens and should be given a sheltered site such as a south facing wall when growing inland, on coastal sites they can pretty much go anywhere sunny. You will normally get a bit of leaf drop during colder spells but as long as they are not prolonged and below -6c recovery in spring is fast. Cold hardiness increases with age.
