Dark velvet trefoil foliage, with purple to almost black in colour with clean white flowers. Plants grown in full sun tend to be more purple, plants grown in part shade, out of direct, midday sun tend to develop much darker, almost black foliage.
Only hardyish in UK zone nine gardens and only if planted in the ground and given a thick winter mulch. |The rootstock can tolerate cold but not being frozen. A thick winter mulch with bark chippings or similar is usually enough to stop the roots freezing in most UK winters. Pot grown plants must be kept frost free in winter or allowed to go dormant and stored almost dry, in a dark, cool but frost free spot. Low light levels and cooler temperatures of winter will usually make the plants go dormant naturally.
Prefers partial shade with free-draining soil or compost.
