Attractive exotic suckering shrub with dark green leaves that are often deep purple underneath and grow up to 8" long. The fragrant purple-red flowers are in terminal panicles up to six inches across and are produced through the summer until the first heavy frosts. Evergreen in frost free areas but gets cut down to the ground in colder spot. Plants that have been cut back by severe weather re-shoot the following spring and can reach flowering size again by mid summer. Tolerates most soil conditions but prefers moist but well drained humus rich soil with full sun to part shade.
Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot. Sent as dormant plants in winter. May be cut back for shipping.
