A spectacular bulbous plant from South Africa with thick, flat, fleshy, almost oblong leaves upto 50cm long and 10cm wide. Spikes of purple-edged, pale green star-shaped flowers on 50cm tall purple-spotted stems appear in late summer to early autumn.
The leafy bract above the flowers gives the arrangement a pineapple looking effect hense the common name. Stunning in any exotic/ architectural planting. Reliably hardy in the South of England and inner city gardens if given a moist but well drained, acid to neutral soil with a full sun aspect.
You will receive a young plant in a 9cm pot. Dormant in winter.
