A wonderful, semi-evergreen, small, low growing, spreading but showy shrub that originates from Mexico. It usually reaches a height of about 50cm and spreads out to about 1.5 meters. Foliage will remain evergreen during mild Winters but leaf drop is common during prolonged cold periods.
It bears lance-shaped, veiny, mid-green leaves and dense clusters of beautiful, golden orange, pouch-like flowers. These blooms are produced over a long period in Summer.
Position in areas of either full sun or partial shade and keep in a sheltered spot. Requires acidic, moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil such as loam or sand.
If grown under glass, use a loam-based compost in bright, filtered light with good ventilation.
Camden Hero is a tender plant, that is proving to be reliably hardy in the south of England. Make sure you wait until the soil is warm (around 10c) and the night time temperature is well above freezing before planting outside in late Spring.
Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot.
