This is a clump-forming, deciduous perennial with finely-divided, dark purple to black leaves and erect, wiry stems. In Autumn, it features racemes of scented, upright, cream flower spikes followed by poisonous berries. Position in partial shade and keep in a sheltered spot. In dry weather must be watered regularly and deeply. Requires acid to alkaline, moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil such as clay or loam enriched with organic matter.

Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot.
