This is a clump-forming, deciduous perennial with spiny, silver-green leaves and leafy stems. In Summer, it features thistle-like, deep-red, spherical flower heads. Position in full sun although tolerates some dryness in partial shade. Requires acid to alkaline, moist but well-drained or well-drained soil such as; chalk, sand or loam.

Ultimate spread: 0.5 metres
Will take approx. 2-5 years to achieve its ultimate height.
