Amazonite is a green tectosilicate mineral, a variety of the potassium feldspar called microcline. Its chemical formula is (KAlSi3O8).
It is named after the Amazon River from which certain green stones were formerly obtained. Whether these stones were actually Amazonite is doubtful as green feldspar is believed not to be found in the Amazon area of South America.
Country of Origin: Madagascar.
