An attractive little perennial from the mountains of Sierra Nevada in California. It is reliably hardy tolerating temperatures of down to -10c if given an acid to neutral, well drained soil in full sun to part shade. The almost succulent leaves form dainty rosettes and in late spring the blooms appear above the foliage on 15cm tall stems. The flowers have notched petals, are salmon pink with darker pink veins and are often edged with white.
Although cold is not a problem winter wet can be so improve the planting area with additional horticultural grit and perlite and apply a gravel mulch. Ideal for rockeries, alpine houses, pots and planting in the cracks of stone walls as well as coastal gardens. Will remain evergreen except during the coldest of winters.
Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot.
