Agapanthus Charlotte
AGAP-CHA-3
- Description
A very compact Agapanthus ideally suited for the front to middle areas in a border and reaching a maximum height of up to 60cm. When growing in a pot and with restricted roots it will usually remain much lower often only reaching 30 to 40cm. The sturdy flowering stems are topped with rounded umbels of pale blue, star shaped blooms each with a dark violet stripe down the centre of each petal.
The broad, mid-green strap like leaves are only semi-evergreen and will be knocked back after a heavy frost. Hardiness wise we do not have any problems with it when grown in the ground in Southern England but if growing in a pot we would recommend bringing under glass for the winter. Although it can tolerate below freezing temperatures it will not survive the rootstock being frozen so mulch in winter if in cold part of the UK or a very cold spell is forecast.
Plant in full sun in any well drained soil. Plants in pots should be grown in terracotta pots with a free draining compost but watered regularly during warm, dry periods. Pot-bound plants tend to flower better so do not re-pot too often or overpot.
Available as young plants in either 9cm or 2L pots.
