An upright, almost tree like fuchsia that can reach 2 meters in height if kept frost free. Only reliably root hardy in UK zone 9 gardens if given a thick winter mulch and it will get cut down to the ground if hit by a heavy frost. If the roots do not freeze during the colder months re-growth usually starts from the rootstock by mid to late May and is vigorous enough to give you a flowering sized shrub again by mid Summer.
The glossy, mid to dark green, elliptic leaves can reach up to 20cm long so are quite large for a Fuchsia. From mid to late summer panicles of dark pink buds appear opening into small, purple-pink, fragrant flowers. Plants that are kept frost free can be in flower for much of the year except during the colder, duller months. The flowers are followed by dark purple to black fruits.
Plant in full sun if growing outside with a moist but well drained soil. Under glass plant in a slightly shaded spot protecting from full midday summer sun. During the summer it can be both thirsty and hungry due to it’s very fast growth rate so keep the compost moist (but not wet) during warmer periods and use a liquid fertiliser every two weeks.
Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot. May be cut back for shipping. Sent as dormant plants in winter.
