Probably one of the most attractive of all the conifers sciadopitys is the only member of its genus and plant family. Slow growing, only putting on about 2.5 meters of growth over a 10 year period so is ideal for smaller gardens and if not allowed to dry out during the growing season, great for pot culture. Whorls of shiny, mid to deep-green foliage encircling its branches gives it its common name of umbrella pine. plant in full sun to part shade with an acid to neutral, humus rich, moist but well drained soil.
