A tropical beauty that is usually grown as a house plant but is proving quite root hardy in warmer UK gardens. It will remain evergreen when grown in frost free conditions but when grown outside the foliage is usually cut right down to the ground by heavier frosts so protect during the winter with either a thick straw or bark chip mulch until all frosts have passed in the spring. Please note, as with all the hardier exotics we grow, we do expose our plants to winter conditions so will be dormant or semi-dormant during the winter.
It produces lush green, strappy fronds on short stems up to 40cm in length when in growth and loves humus rich, moist but well drained soils and part to full shade. Planting below the canopy of evergreen shrubs and trees will give the plant extra winter protection.
Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot.
