Trachelospermum asiaticum Ogon Nishiki Asiatic jasmine
TRACH-OGO
- Description
A very brightly coloured, evergreen climber (needs support) that can also be used as ground cover or trailing over the side of a large pot or wall. The leaves are multi coloured with different shades of green, white, yellow and red and not only is the foliage bright but it also produces white, jasmine scented flowers in summer. Plant in a moist but well drained soil and water regularly during the summer months if growing in a pot. When grown in the ground it becomes very drought resistant once it has had a year or two for the roots to establish.
Do not panic if you do not see much growth for the first few months of planting, they take a while to settle after re-planting but then all of a suddenly you will start getting fresh new growth at a moderate rate. Hardiness wise it is pretty much fully hardy in milder parts of the UK tolerating down to -10c but if growing in a pot it may be worth wrapping the pot in winter of prolonged cold is predicted. It also makes a good conservatory plant.
Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot.
