Buddleja Lindleyana Lindley's butterfly bush
BUDD-LI
- Description
A large deciduous shrub from the forests of China where it is found growing in rocky areas along stream sides, mountainsides and forest margins. The ovate, dark green leaves are borne opposite each other on long, slender, arching branches.
The beautiful, curved, tubular, violet flowers are borne in slender panicles at the end of the branches in late summer, they are not scented. If left to grow naturally it can be slightly disappointing on the flowering side with the panicles being quite sparse throughout the whole shrub so prune back each year after flowering. This will produce many more flowering shoots for the next year and increase blooming significantly in the seasons to follow.
Plant in full sun to part shade preferably sheltered from cold winds. Tolerates most soil types if well drained to moist but well drained and will reach a height of around 2.5 meters with a similar spread.
Sent as a young plant in a 9cm pot. May be cut back for shipping and will be sent as dormant plants in winter.
