Often incorrectly called incorrectly called portdora, portodora or portidora this is a hybrid Alocasia, a cross between Alocasia portei and Alocasia odora. If kept frost free it can reach a huge size up to 4 meters tall with a 2 meter spread. the leaves themselves, without the stems can be 2 meters in length.
Although we have had these survive mild winters outdoors with protection they have always been knocked back by frost and re-growth from the rootstock has only ever reached around 30 to 50cm tall by the end of the following season. To get huge plants they really need a heated greenhouse or conservatory for the winter. Large plants can be put outside for the summer once all frosts have passed and make fantastic patio pot plants or can be plunged into an exotic border for the warmer months easily being lifted before the cold weather comes back in.
Tolerates most soils/ composts and likes plenty of food and bucket loads of water during the growing season. Stop feeding and reduce watering for the cooler months and keep the soil only just moist until the Spring.
Typically dispatched within 3 to 5 working days as a young plant in a 14cm pot. Sent as dormant plants in winter. Will usually be cut back for shipping, re-growth is very fast during the growing season. Fully tracked postage.
