This clump-forming, deciduous perennial is native to Southern, Central and Western Europe. It produces lobed, basal, soft green leaves - these may have purple-brown blotches. In late Spring to early Summer, it bears white eyed, burgundy-black flowers with reflexed petals. Position in areas of either full sun, full shade or partial shade – keep sheltered. Requires acidic to alkaline, moderately fertile, moist but well-drained or well-drained soil such as; sand, loam, chalk or clay.
